Åhus, brushed plaster walls, stretched muslin fabric ceiling, diffusing scent ionizer, Baltic Sea fragrance custom designed by Quest International, theatrical lighting and gels, exterior room (corridor) 20’ x 20’, interior light room 12’ x 12’ x 12’ , 3/2006
Åhus, a town on the Baltic Sea, where my family had a summer house, is haunted by mythology and childhood memories. I recall primal senses—scent and the vagaries of continual light —to recreate the Baltic white nights when the sun never sets.
A bright orange narrow corridor opens into a minimal pure cube. The ceiling floats and cold nordic light streams through muslin. A cold briny fragrance is diffused throughout the room.
